Description
GCNF is an orphan member of the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcription factors that functions as a transcriptional repressor. It is an essential factor in vertebrate embryogenesis. GCNF is expressed at low levels in many tissues but is expressed at high levels in the testes. Disruption (knockout) of GCNF is embryonic lethal and is associated with significant defects in posterior development.
