Description
Enzymes in the cytochrome P450 CYP3A class play a major role in the detoxification and metabolism of drugs. Lovastatin is a member of the statin drug class used for lowering cholesterol. It has been shown to induce the expression of CYP3A enzymes through activation of the pregnane X receptor (PXR), a member of the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcription factors.
