Description
Retinoic acid is a derivative of vitamin A (retinol) that exists in two forms: 9-cis and all-trans. all-trans retinoic acid, through high affinity interactions with the retinoic acid receptor (RAR) subfamily of the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcription factors, controls the differentiation and proliferation of many types of tissues. Synthetic analogs such as are used in the treatment of acne and acute promyelocytic leukemia.
