LRH-1

Browse nuclear receptors

Name
Fetoprotein transcription factor
Symbol
LRH-1
NRNC Symbol
NR5A2

Overview

LRH-1 is an orphan member of the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcription factors and a mammalian homolog of the Drosophila fushi tarazu F1 gene product. It is involved in the regulation of genes which participate in steroid, bile acid and cholesterol homeostasis.

Expression

LRH-1 is expressed primarily in the gastrointestinal system (duodenum, jejunum, ileum, colon, gall bladder), liver and ovary.

Phenotypes

Disruption (knockout) of LRH-1 in mice results in compromised intestinal lipid absorption as well as defective embryogenesis and cholesterol homeostasis.
