Overview

ROR-γ is a member of the orphan ROR subfamily of the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcription factors, with a role in thymocyte development and homeostasis.

Expression

ROR-γ is expressed at low to moderate levels in most physiological systems, including the central nervous system (CNS), endocrine system, gastrointestinal system, reproductive system, cardiopulmonary system, skeletal muscle and skin. Peaks of expression are seen in the gastrointestinal system (jejunum, ileum, colon), metabolic tissues (liver, kidney) and immune system (thymus gland).

Phenotypes

Targeted disruption (knockout) of ROR-γ is associated with defects in lymphoid organogenesis and in homeostasis and metabolism.
