Description
Dexamethasone is a 9-fluoro-glucocorticoid and a a potent agonist for the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), a steroid member of the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcription factors. It is used in the treatment of allergies (asthma, atopic dermatitis), dermatological conditions, gstrointestinal diseases (enteritis, ulcerative colitis), endocrine disorders (adrenocortical insufficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia), hematological disorders (anemia, purpura), cancer (leukemia, lymphoma), central nervous system diseases (multiple sclerosis, cerebral edema), inflammatory ophthalmic diseases, renal diseases, repsiratory diseases (pneumonia, sarcoidosis) and rheumatic disorders (arthritis, spondylitis and lupus erythematosus).
