DDC is a pyridoxal phosphate-requiring enzyme that catalyses the formation of DA from L-dopa and 5-hydroxytryptamine from L-5-hydroxytryptophan. DDC was shown to interact with and act as a coactivator for androgen receptor (AR), a steroid receptor member of the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcription factors.
